Snapchat Launches Location-Based 'Context Cards' With Uber, Goop, TripAdvisor and Others

For now, you can access Context Cards by swiping up on any Snap that says "more" at the bottom.

Snap Inc's Snapchat on Tuesday introduced "context cards", a new feature that will allow users to book an Uber ride or reserve a seat at a restaurant without leaving the messaging app.

Other partners for Context Cards include Foursquare, Michelin, Lyft, Resy, Bookatable and Goop, actress Gwyneth Paltrow's lifestyle brand.

If you decide you'd like to meet your friends there, you can even use the Context Card to summon ride from Uber or place a reservation through OpenTable. These location-based cards bring relevant information like business hours, reviews, contact information, and travel options to Snapchat. For example, someone may send you a picture of a plate of food they're now devouring, and add a geofilter to the image detailing where exactly they are.

Snaps included in Context Cards are those that have been tagged with Snapchat's venue-specific geofilters or any post that has been submitted to the Our Story section. Context Cards won't be limited to single Snaps either, as Snapchat is integrating them into Stories as well. Context Cards seem to go hand-in-hand with Snapchat Maps, and indeed, those who use Maps will probably get a lot of use out of Context Cards as well. The first Context Card that appears will contain basic information, such as the name of the place, category of venue (e.g., department store or restaurant), and partner ratings.

At launch, Context Cards will be available in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia and New Zealand, on both iOS and Android versions of the Snapchat app.
