Microsoft Reportedly In Talks To Extend PUBG Exclusivity Deal

Notably, "PUBG" still isn't available on the Xbox One; it's scheduled to launch by the end of 2017 on the console, where it will be a "console exclusive" (the game is already available on PC).

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has become this year's surprise hit of the game industry, selling 13 million copies and shattering records for personal-computer game sales.

According to Bloomberg, individuals familiar Bluehole and Microsoft are reporting that Microsoft is in talks with Bluehole to extend the exclusivity period for PUBG. Giants such as Sony Corp. and Tencent Holdings Ltd. are clamoring for rights to put the title on consoles and mobile phones. The game is scheduled to drop on Xbox later this year, and it is speculated that it could be exclusive until the middle of next year or perhaps longer. Microsoft has refused to comment on the issue.

So far, the Xbox is the only console that PUBG has been announced for, news that came back during E3 in the summer. "However, the number of users increased faster than our development speed which resulted in more connection and server issues recently". Not only has the appearance of advertisements in a paid-for game outraged those who see them, but most Chinese players believe developer Bluehole should be working to improve the game's technical issues, rather than making money from the local servers' inadequacies. It is said that Blue is "likely" to extend the exclusivity agreement between both parties. What they are doing to bring down the damage is a third-party exclusive deal - Sony has many of them - Bungie's Destiny 2, Sledgehammer Games' Call of Duty: WWII, and many others. The first among these seemed to be the PlayStation 4, following reports claiming that Bluehole was in talks with all of the major platform holders to bring PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds to different consoles.
