Giants Suspend Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie After Spat With Ben McAdoo

We had a conversation that was personal upstairs and he came in today, chose to leave.

While Rodgers-Cromartie told ESPN's Josina Anderson he plans to return to the team Thursday, it seems he will be inactive for Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos.

The New York Giants suspended cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie after he left the team's facility and did not practice Wednesday. Rodgers-Cromartie felt he was being a "good soldier" by taking the slot cornerback role, according to Rapoport, and the rift blew up amid the loss and apparently dragged into the conversation McAdoo had with Rodgers-Cromartie on Tuesday. What those conversations were McAdoo did not expand upon.

If the Giants suspend Rodgers-Cromartie for the full four weeks allowed, they would either have to release him or reinstate him to the roster for their November 12 game at the 49ers.

Rodgers-Cromartie had not filed a grievance as of early Wednesday evening, according to an NFLPA spokesman. Rodgers-Cromartie told ESPN's Josina Anderson that he "was suspended way before I left", a timeline Collins corroborated.

The injury-plagued Giants lost to the Chargers, 27-22, Sunday to drop to 0-5. Art Stapleton of The Record (N.J.) reports that Rodgers-Cromartie's frustrations with his usage led to the argument with McAdoo and other coaches.

Rodgers-Cromartie has one more season left on the five-year contract he signed before the 2014 season.

Collins, an All-Pro last season, was hobbled throughout the Giants' game against the Chargers. If the Giants cut him, he would carry $2 million in dead cap space for 2018, a savings of $6.5 million.
