Facebook Messenger Lite For Android Now Available In The US And More

You might not have noticed this, but Facebook and Facebook Messenger had different emoji sets.

The application has 50+ million downloads now, showing that it has been a hit in the countries it launched.

Facebook has finally rolled out Messenger Lite for Android in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Ireland, with the app now available through the Google Play Store.

In a 2016 interview after it was first launched, David Marcus, head of messaging products at Facebook, said Messenger's goal is to be a 'product for everyone, not only people who can afford a higher-end device and more expensive data plan'.

Facebook Lite is targeted at people who are holding on to mid-range or entry-level Android handset and does not have an iOS version.

Facebook Messenger Lite is a lean app that focuses on the essentials with primary focus on messaging, rather than Snapchat-like filters, or games that are now available on the main Messenger app.

In terms of functioning, the Messenger Lite performs similar functions to the regular Messenger app and packs most of the critical features of the app, but skips things like Messenger Day and selfie lenses that can drain data. The app has its own personal assistant, and now every time you open it you're also hit in the face with all your friend's Stories.

The app was originally designed for people who lived in countries with slower Internet connections, although Facebook has now made a decision to release the app in lots more countries. Facebook has not yet provided an indication as to if or when it may bring Messenger Lite to Apple's mobile platform.

Facebook Messenger Lite is a standalone, slimmed down version of the original Messenger app that offers core features of Messenger for places with slower than average Internet speeds. The senior officials also told that the app would utilize much less data connection as matched to other social networking sites or applications. And surely, the appearance of a data-friendly app will surely appeal to such people.

The whole idea behind Messenger Lite is for it to use as little data as possible.
