Alexa can now tell the difference between your voice and your roommate's

According to Amazon, the voice recognition feature will be available across the entire lineup of Echo devices, and the third-party Alexa devices as well.

Around 11% or so of US consumers own an Amazon Echo or Google Home, making the percentages relatively small but the numbers high.

"Consumers who are looking to buy a smart speaker this coming holiday season will have a wide range of form factors, prices and feature sets to choose from", Strategy Analytics analyst David Watkins said.

To teach Alexa your voice, you need to have the latest app version (even then, Artem isn't seeing it yet, so it could be a slow rollout), and head over to Settings - Accounts - Your Voice, tap on your profile name, and then Begin.

The back-and-forth of feature additions between Google and Amazon on their smart speakers is becoming one long, tedious yet fascinating, tennis rally. Interestingly, voice recognition is very efficient, it means when you will say "Call mom", it will call your mom, not your friend's. Alexa will recognize their voice without you having to manually switch between profiles, or tell Alexa who you are.

After recognizing the voice, Alexa can deliver personalized results in the form of music playback, shopping, news briefings, messages and Alexa-to-Alexa calling.

Echo Show works with smart home devices such as cameras, lights, TVs, fans, thermostats, garages, sprinklers, and more. You'll have to repeat ten sentences over to train Alexa that it's your voice.

As TechCrunch first reported, the technology giant released an update that brought the change to both its own Echo smart speaker as well as any other device with Alexa built in. Now you can get the device for just $200 at Amazon.
