Nunes vs. Shevchenko 2

Nunes vs. Shevchenko 2

It was a tactical fight between the two top ranked fighters with Nunes serving as the aggressor for the bulk of five rounds with Shevchenko using her counter striking to chop away at the champion throughout 25-minutes. "I don't hate her".

Slowly, Shevchenko appeared to get Nunes' timing down, although she never really opened up in a big way.

"I think three of five rounds, I won exactly". "Even when I was on the ground I was landing more punches and she was just holding the position, nothing more".

"But I wasn't going to miss it", said Park, 32. Neither fighter is doing much but Shevchenko in particular is quite inactive beyond her low kicks.

The night's co-main event saw former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos move one step closer to title contention at welterweight. That's not the case in this fight, however, as Shevchenko believes she did more damage and landed the cleaner shots against Nunes in their rematch on Saturday night.

"The first kick, I hurt my foot", she said. Nunes continued to land push kicks, however, and placed the right hand several times during brief exchanges.

It was the second time Nunes had beaten Shevchenko in 18 months.

Overall, however, it was a chess match of a fight.

ESPN's Brett Okamoto cited the possibility of Johnson v Borg being rescheduled for October whilst the UFC has offered a full refund to fans who had purchased tickets to the fight.

In a pivotal fifth round, Nunes looked to score takedowns early. She also defended the belt vs. Ronda Rousey this past December.

Nunes acknowledged it was hard to concentrate all week, as south Florida braces for Hurricane Irma this weekend. "I'm here. I can't do anything about it. Nina's family is there, went there, helping with everything". The preliminary card beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET will be streamed via UFC Fight Pass, while the FS1 broadcast beginning at 8 p.m. can be had online via Fox Sports Go. I have friends as well.

It's never easy for a fighter to earn a third opportunity to face an opponent after two past losses, but Shevchenko is determined to get back into the cage with Nunes again in the future. That's good for both of us and there would be more money for me, of course. The surgery does not rule out a return this year, although Nunes said she's likely to return in 2018.
