Jose Mourinho aiming for fifth Carabao Cup win

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial shone as Manchester United kicked off their EFL Cup defence by sweeping aside Championship team Burton Albion 4-1.

Leading 3-0 at the break, United's players visibly took their feet off the gas during the second period, and only managed to score one further goal.

Jose Mourinho has surprisingly stated his belief that English football could be made "stronger" if the League Cup was scrapped.

Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough couldn't have any complaints about the result as his team were outclassed!

"I know the quality of the Championship, and I know if we don't take it seriously, we are going to lose".

"Maybe we would be fresher for European competition".

"If we can win it, we win it".

And Bent feels that the absence of Manchester United's club-record signing is set to present the Red Devils with their first real test of the season.

Mourinho can be more adventurous and United's goals are being spread around - nine different players have found the net this season - but let's not think there was overreliance on Zlatan Ibrahimovic at this stage a year ago: Eight players scored in the first eight games.

United have now scored 17 goals in five home matches this season in all competitions, although Burton became the first of those visiting sides to score at Old Trafford.

"But we have this competition, we have to respect, we have to respect the sponsors, we have to respect the opponents, we have to respect the professionalism of all of us trying to do the best".

Do you think United can retain the League Cup this season?

Both players are yet to start a game for United this season and the Manager has appealed to them to exercise patience as they would get the chance to play as the season progresses.

Alongside Michael Carrick, Herrera had formed a fine-tuned partnership in central midfield and last season had arguably his best game in a United shirt when he successfully marked Eden Hazard, and scored, in a 2-0 win over eventual champions Chelsea.

The fourth round, which will be played in the week commencing 23 October, will feature a London derby after Tottenham were drawn at home to West Ham.
