Suspects Plead Not Guilty in Killing of Clinton Police Officer

Shooting suspect Ian McCarthy is being held at the Henry County Jail.

Thirty-nine-year-old Ian McCarthy is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Clinton police Officer Gary Michael.

They say he agreed to show them the firearms he possessed. From the site of the crash, the driver fled on foot, Lowe said.

The affidavit did not say why officers wanted to talk to him, but they told him they wanted to see guns he owned.

Noble told police he threw the rifle into a body of water, and on Thursday led investigators to the site, according to an affidavit filed in Henry County Circuit Court.

"Noble acted like he was visibly upset and faked crying", according to the affidavit.

When Noble asked what kind of weapon was used to kill the officer, an investigator with the highway patrol told him, "He knew the answer to this question", according to the affidavit.

Noble saw the safe was damaged, began acting "suspicious", and asked what type of gun was used in the murder. Noble allegedly told police he bought the gun for McCarthy because McCarthy was from out of state. However, he then changed the story and admitted he bought the gun for McCarthy because he was asked to. During an exchange of gunfire, both Michael and McCarthy were shot.

Police asked Noble if he knew where the gun now was.

Manchester Police confirmed earlier this week that a warrant was issued here for McCarthy in 2013 for assault.

Investigators have said that Michael was killed when the driver of a auto he stopped for a traffic violation in Clinton Sunday jumped out and shot him.

Noble told the officers he "panicked" when he returned home on Monday - the day after the shooting - and found the rifle leaning against an inside doorway, the statement said.

Michael's funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m.in Clinton. He then went with officers to the intersection of NW 300th Road and NW 131st Road.

Investigators have said it's possible that other people helped McCarthy by giving him a ride or clothes.
