Former FSU K Roberto Aguayo Released by Bucs

The Bucs' investment in Aguayo, who had left Florida State as the most accurate kicker in NCAA history, is what hurts the most. Add to that a missed extra point and missed field goal in the first preseason game - while Folk was one-for-one with a 45 yarder, longer than any of Aguayo's makes last season - and the writing was on the wall. Aguayo's longest made field goal past year was just 43 yards.

Aguayo entered the game ahead of Folk on the team's depth chart, but clearly his performance cause the team to make the decision to cut him.

The Buccaneers brought in former New York Jets kicker Nick Folk to compete with Aguayo for the starting job. He made 32 of 34 extra points last season. You just have to keep your head up and move onto the next day.

In his three years in Tallahassee (2013-2015), Aguayo never made below 80 percent of his field goals. He struggled as a rookie, connecting on only 71 percent of his field goals. I want to change this.

Asked if he thought he may have cost himself a job with Friday's performance, Aguayo said, "You wanted to come out and be ideal".

Aguayo clanged a PAT attempt off the right upright after a Bucs touchdown late in the first half, then missed a 47-yard field goal wide right on Tampa Bay's final possession of the game.

"You know, I keep saying it, I can't say it anymore", Koetter said. Obviously, not up to the standards that I want. He will get another opportunity to kick in the National Football League at some point. I did some good things. I had a field goal in there but at the end of the day, it wasn't what I wanted.
