Wife: Man who shot congressman wanted to work on tax policy

The man expressed grievances online about President Donald Trump and Republicans, but authorities said they're still working to determine a motive.

"Five others were injured during Hodgkinson's Wednesday morning rampage at a park in Alexandria, Va". She said he talked a lot about politics but, when pressed, said she didn't want to discuss her husband's views.

Not mentioned: That Hodgkinson, according to witnesses, specifically asked whether the players on the field were Republicans or Democrats before getting an assault rifle and firing off some 100 rounds. And certainly we know that he had a criminal record that shows that he's faced a charge of battery which was later dropped. He allegedly punched a woman who was a friend of the girl.

CBS News reported that the note was not necessarily an "assassination list", but that it indicated Hodgkinson had recently focused on the individuals on the list.

His brother Michael told The New York Times: "I know he wasn't happy with the way things were going, the election results and stuff".

"I'm sorry that he did this", she added.

"We wanted to make sure we hadn't missed a sign, that we hadn't failed in our duty to report", Bost said. He thought about asking a staffer about him but never did.
