Trump tweets of witch hunt amid Russian Federation probe, bashes Hillary Clinton

The Justice Department's investigation into Russian involvement in the 2016 election is looking at Kushner's multiple roles in the Trump administration, including the Trump campaign's 2016 data analytics operation; his relationship with former national security adviser Michael Flynn; and Kushner's own contacts with Russians, according to United States officials briefed on the probe.

The new allegations against Trump center on his own admission that he fired Comey because of the Russian Federation investigation, and suggestions he asked several top intelligence officials for their help altering the inquiry's direction. "Nice", the president tweeted.

The Post reported that FBI agents and federal prosecutors are also looking into the financial dealings of Flynn, former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and former campaign policy adviser Carter Page. "Why is that Hillary Clintons family and Dems dealings with Russian Federation are not looked at, but my non-dealings are?", Trump tweeted just before 4 p.m. EDT. Though some in the White House have preached caution, fearing a repeat of the firestorm over Comey's firing, many in Trump's orbit - including his son Donald Trump Jr. and adviser Newt Gingrich - have deemed Mueller biased and worthy of dismissal. "Witch Hunt", the president wrote on Twitter.

"I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!"

Mr Trump may have been referring to deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein, who in a memo to Mr Trump raised concerns over Mr Comey's performance.

Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, also has retained an attorney to represent him.

Trump responded to reports he is personally being investigated for obstruction of justice with a characteristic scorched earth defense: claiming mistreatment of historic proportions and calling into question the probity of his accusers.

He wrote in multiple social media posts that he views Mueller - a long-serving former Federal Bureau of Investigation director respected by both parties - as leading a biased probe with the singular aim of dislodging Trump.

Trump wrote, "You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!"

President Donald Trump has lashed out at the investigators driving the Russian Federation investigation as "very bad and conflicted people", responding angrily to reports that the special counsel is looking into whether Trump obstructed justice. "Regulations way down, jobs and enthusiasm way up!" The legal one will come later.

"He's driving this", the White House official said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss West Wing internal deliberations.

Friday's tweets have taken other aides across the White House by surprise.
