Trump confirms he's under investigation for firing former FBI Director James Comey

In the past, Trump had repeatedly emphasized the fact that Comey told him he was not personally being investigated for possible collusion with the Russians. President Donald Trump's closest allies are attacking the integrity of those involved in the wideni.

President Donald Trump says it's "sad" that seven months of investigations and hearings into possible links between his campaign and Russian Federation have been fruitless.

Comey said the notes contain his recollections that Trump asked for his loyalty when they met for a January dinner and then urged him during a private meeting in the Oval Office two weeks later to drop an investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

Trump is an avid user of Twitter, with over 32 million followers on his personal account and more than 18 million people on the official presidential account.

Rosenstein in a memo to Trump raised concerns over FBI Director James Comey. The White House has used a memo he wrote to justify Trump's decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, but that Trump action may now be part of the probe. In that case, Rosenstein could be called as a witness.

It was unclear if Trump was referencing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein or Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

"The message the president is sending through his tweets is that he believes the rule of law doesn't apply to him and that anyone who thinks otherwise will be fired", Feinstein said. They have tried to highlight the positive reviews he received Wednesday when he made a statesman-like appearance in the White House to address the nation after Rep. Steve Scalise was shot during a congressional baseball practice. Trump tweeted Thursday afternoon. A day later, Rosenstein appointed Mueller, who was at the helm of the Federal Bureau of Investigation during the September 11 attacks, as special counsel.

In a statement, the NSA said it is prepared to "fully cooperate with the special counsel". The Department of Justice has a long established policy to neither confirm nor deny such allegations.

The Associated Press has requested the same records.

"The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal", Mark Carallo told the Washington Post". What is clear is that he could order the Justice Department to ax Mueller, which may result in Rosenstein's departure and would certainly intensify the uproar over the investigation. Because Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the probe, it was Rosenstein who appointed Mueller to the job. "And to the best of my recollection, during that same period of service, I do not recall ever feeling pressured to do so".

Trump was strongly critical of some of Comey's testimony but said Comey had vindicated him by saying while he was at the agency, Trump was not the subject of the FBI's Russian Federation probe. An official of Trump's transition confirmed the lawyer's internal order, which was sent Thursday. The transition, a nonprofit structurally separate from the Trump campaign, continues to operate with a small staff.

As the legal rope has tightened, Trump's allies have gone on the offensive, questioning Mueller's credibility and floating the idea he may be fired. Pence headed the Trump transition until inauguration day. Cohen has worked for Trump since the mid-2000s and was active in the campaign.
