Trump confirms he is being investigated over Comey firing

On Friday, ABC News reported that Rosenstein was raising the possibility that he, too, would need to recuse himself from the matter, handing the D.O.J. investigation off to the department's third-in-command. Rosenstein had written a scathing memo criticizing Comey's handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation, which the White House initially cited as the impetus for Comey's ouster.

It was not clear whether the president was basing his tweet on direct knowledge, or on reports this week that special counsel Robert Mueller is examining whether he obstructed justice by firing Mr Comey last month amid the Russian Federation probe.

Comey (photo) told a Senate panel last week he believed Trump fired him because of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Russian Federation probe.

"The message the president is sending through his tweets is that he believes the rule of law doesnt apply to him and that anyone who thinks otherwise will be fired. That is undemocratic on its face and a blatant violation of the presidents oath of office", she said.

Rosenstein took over the investigation after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself because he was a Trump campaign surrogate. Over the last month, the Russian scandal has taken an interesting turn, which was sparked following Trump's abrupt firing of James Comey as director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation last month.

The appointment was hailed by partisans on both sides of the aisle, who praised Mueller as a model law enforcement official and an aggressive, yet fair, investigator. An official with Trump's transition team confirmed the lawyer's internal order, which was sent Thursday. The official demanded anonymity because the official was not authorized to be named discussing the deliberations.

The message was widely read as confirming a probe of Trump by the special counsel investigating Russia's meddling in the 2016 USA election. The newspaper noted Mueller had requested interviews with CIA Director Dan Coats, National Security Agency chief Michael Rogers and Richard Ledgett, the former NSA deputy director.

Vice-President Mike Pence on Thursday hired a private lawyer to represent his interests in the expanding probe.

Pence had taken over the transition team from New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

He also has millions of followers on his official Facebook pages.

In addition, reports surfaced that US Vice President Mike Pence has hired a personal lawyer to deal with requests from the special counsel investigating possible collusion with Russian Federation during the 2016 election, a top aide said Thursday. But a person close to Trump's outside legal team who asked not to be named said Trump was merely reacting to news reports and hadn't been notified by the special counsel that he is a subject of the investigation. As seen on Twitter on June 16, Trump is not only denying his guilt of obstruction, but is now putting the blame on his own deputy attorney general.
