Trump appears to become own 'leaker' with tweet about Russia probe

This isn't the first report to suggest that the presidency was taking an unexpected toll on Trump. Chris Ruddy, the CEO of Newsmax and an ally of Trump, even floated the idea earlier this week that Trump was prepared to oust Mueller. "You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!".

"What really concerns me that the president is attacking his own deputy attorney general who appointed the special counsel".

One White House official says his tweet appearing to confirm obstruction probe came out of nowhere.

The tweets also are seen by some in the president's circle as the beginning of a case against the officials investigating him.

"It has become clear that President Trump believes that he has the power to fire anyone in government he chooses and for any reason, including Special Counsel Robert Mueller", Schiff wrote Friday.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said she was "increasingly concerned" that Trump will fire both Mueller and Rosenstein.

Feinstein added, "That's undemocratic on its face and a blatant violation of the president's oath of office". The White House denies any collusion.

Yet Trump's angry tweets on Friday underscored the near-impossible challenge his advisers and legal team have in trying to get him to avoid weighing in on an active probe. Grassley announced Wednesday, to the consternation of some GOP colleagues, that the committee would investigate whether there was any "improper interference" with FBI investigations during the election or otherwise.

It wasn't clear whether President Trump was basing his tweet on direct knowledge that he is under investigation, or on reports this week that special counsel Robert Mueller is examining whether the president obstructed justice by firing Mr. Comey last month amid the ongoing Russian Federation investigation.

Vice President Mike Pence sent out this tweet shortly after the rant.

"I appointed him. I stand by that decision", Rosenstein said. Trump had viewed Sessions' recusal as unnecessary, even though Justice Department regulations made it nearly impossible to avoid.

On Thursday night, he issued a statement lashing out at news stories sourced to anonymous officials and that he believes are causing the President and Republicans to attack the Justice Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Mueller for alleged leaks.

Was the Rosenstein memo the reason Comey was sacked? The White House used the memo to justify Comey's firing.

Rosenstein has been overseeing the Russian Federation probe since shortly after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself.

Rosenstein had written to Trump recommending Comey's firing.

A Justice Department spokesman said: "If there comes a point when he needs to recuse, he will". The transition, a nonprofit structurally separate from the Trump campaign, continues to operate with a small staff. Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., where Trump has spent some weekends, also took in $20 million in income.

Vice President Mike Pence hired an outside lawyer to represent his legal interests in the expanding Russian Federation probe.

Pence had taken over the transition team from New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen has hired Washington, D.C. -based counsel.
