Special counsel Mueller investigating Jared Kushner's finances, Washington Post reports

"That's undemocratic on its face and a blatant violation of the president's oath of office", Feinstein said in a statement Friday.

"Evidently the White House is considering firing Mueller".

Trump's Tweet is most likely directed against Rod Rosenstein, the author of the memorandum which became a formal reason for Comey's dismissal.

Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Trump's personal lawyer, had responded Wednesday evening to the Post report by saying: "The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal".

United States president Donald Trump has appeared to confirm he is under investigation for his dealings with Russian Federation and for firing former FBI directer James Comey. Robert Mueller reports to Rosenstein, but is authorized to pursue the investigation independently.

"Americans should be skeptical about anonymous allegations".

The transition official spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss post-election decisions publicly.

Comey has told lawmakers to give the notes that he took after each of his nine meetings or phone calls with Trumps to Mueller. What is clear is that he could order the Justice Department to ax Mueller, which may result in Rosenstein's departure and would certainly intensify the uproar over the investigation. Since then, dozens of critical leaks about the Russian Federation investigation and Trump's handling of classified information have been reported, seriously undermining the administration's agenda. Former [FBI] Director [Robert] Mueller has hired 13 lawyers.

Rosenstein was the author of the memo that made the case for Comey's firing, and now leads the Russian Federation investigation after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the investigation.

Rosenstein has been overseeing the Russian Federation probe since shortly after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself. But Rosenstein, too, may ultimately have to hand off oversight of the probe given his own role in Comey's firing. There has certainly been no indication that Mr Mueller told Mr Trump to fire Mr Comey.

Mr Trump's lawyer denounced the development and accused the Federal Bureau of Investigation of leaking material.

Mueller's move came after Comey said in his June 8 testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee that he intentionally handed over his memos, detailing each conversation he had with the president, over to Mueller. They are former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, his business partner Rick Gates, a national security adviser Carter Page, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn and informal Trump adviser Roger Stone.

The panel sent a bipartisan letter this month to White House counsel Don McGahn seeking an answer by this Friday. Vice President Mike Pence's office said on Thursday he had hired a lawyer known for defending government officials in high-profile investigations to help him with the Russian Federation probes.
