Scalise on the mend, now in 'serious' condition

The man who shot House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and others at a congressional baseball practice this week had with him a piece of paper with doodles and the names of three lawmakers.

Scalise was wounded when a gunman opened fire at a Republican baseball practice in Virginia on Wednesday.

The Louisiana Republican is recovering from "substantial damage" he suffered when a bullet pierced his left hip and traveled directly across to the other hip, Dr. Jack Sava of MedStar Washington Hospital Center said Friday.

"Rep. Scalise is a proud LSU alumnus and great supporter of the university, and we are proud to help out even in this small way", said LSU President F. King Alexander.

Vice President Mike Pence earlier on Thursday said he visited the hospital where Scalise was being treated. Shimkus says the main problem is those on the extreme right and left want flawless agreement on their views, which goes against American democracy.

He said doctors have turned down Scalise's sedation levels enough that he has been able to respond to visiting family members. Mika's family said the lobbyist was shot multiple times.

"This game is always an important moment for both parties to come together to support charity, build friendships, and celebrate our national pastime, but, as you all know, tonight's game has taken on a much deeper level of meaning, beyond anything that we would have thought", he said. Many are tributes and prayers for Congressman Steve Scalise. The JumboTron showed a fan with a sign "Scalise Strong!"

"In Washington we have our disagreements, but we all agree that we are here to serve this nation we love, and the people who call it home", President Trump said in a video address to the crowd.

They said that his "risk of death" has substantially lowered than when he arrived at the hospital.

She said she was married to James Hodgkinson for almost 30 years but they have not been together since March, when he moved to Washington, D.C.

Since then he has had more than one surgery and doctors expect he will continue to have more in the near future.

The House of Representatives' No. 3 Republican leader was in grave condition when he was first shot. But at a news conference, Pelosi bristled at comments made by a few Republicans and conservative activists who blamed heated Democratic rhetoric for the incident.

House Speaker Paul Ryan has paid a visit to wounded Majority Whip Steve Scalise at the hospital.

I would also like to personally thank all of the first responders who bravely assisted at the scene, as well as the entire staff of MedStar Washington Hospital Center for their continued excellent care. He declined to describe specific internal injuries.
