Qatar, in regional crisis, hires former US attorney general

Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani thanked Russian Federation for providing assistance to Qatar in overcoming the consequences of the diplomatic row with a number of Arab states.

There are 2,349 Bahrainis and 784 Emiratis in the country. That comes after Trump, who tweeted Tuesday about Qatar funding extremists, called Qatari ruler Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Wednesday and offered to host leaders at the White House to resolve the crisis.

The U.S. stages operations in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan from Al-Udeid airbase, the base of U.S. Air Force Central Command and the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing.

"The blockade is also impairing USA and other global business activities in the region and has created a hardship on the people of Qatar and the people whose livelihoods depend on commerce with Qatar". They also imposed a land, sea, and air blockade. Many Qataris also live in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and UAE.

"These drastic measures are already having a brutal effect, splitting children from parents and husbands from wives", said Amnesty after its researchers interviewed dozens of people affected by the crisis.

Qatar's foreign minister asserted that his country has the backing of the worldwide community and that his government has taken all necessary measures to "to ensure that the standards provided to the people will be maintained".

Iranians officials said on Sunday that tonnes of vegetables had been sent from Iran to Qatar since the measures were taken against it. His wife is a UAE national and is forbidden from traveling to Qatar, while his children are Qatari nationals and are required to leave the UAE.

"Prosecuting anyone on this basis would be a clear violation of the right to freedom of expression".
