In spite of tweet, lawyer says Trump not under investigation

Cuomo kicked off the segment by noting the "obvious contradiction" between Trump's statement in a tweet that he is "under investigation", and his legal counsel's contention that he is not the subject of a probe by Robert Mueller.

"Brian, we're friends, and I'm not going to discuss legal advice I have given to my client, the president of the United States", Sekulow responded.

"The tweet from the president was in response to the five anonymous sources purportedly leaking info to the Washington Post". Instead of focusing on Mueller's friendship with Comey, Professor Turley defends the special counsel's integrity, but questions whether he himself ever discussed Comey's firing with the President.

The President and his allies have declared open season on Mueller and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who is overseeing the probe.

"It was a striking show of solidarity between two men who a year ago had been fierce presidential rivals - who had upbraided each other in deeply personal terms during one of the ugliest stretches of the Republican primary", the Washington Post reported on Friday. No, Trump was just referring to a Washington Post story that said that.

A personal attorney for Donald Trump is insisting that the President is not under investigation.

Asked on NBC whether Trump's social-media commentary may be created to intimidate Rosenstein or Mueller, Sen.

"They had the best M&Ms on the planet", Rubio said about his trip to Florida with Trump on Air Force One. "That's it. Simple explanation", Sekulow told CNN's "State of the Union".

"Why does the president seem, act as if he is so concerned about this investigation if he did nothing wrong?"

Comey had testified that as of the time he was sacked by Trump on May 9, the Federal Bureau of Investigation was not investigating Trump, but the Post story said that changed days later with Comey's firing.

Senator Marco Rubio of Florida said, "The FBI is going to do its job".

Schiff told "This Week" on ABC News that Trump and his lawyers want to lay the foundation to discredit whatever the special counsel will come up with. "They're essentially engaging in a scorched-earth litigation strategy that is beginning with trying to discredit the prosecutor".

As the investigation does move forward, there's been a tip from the deputy attorney general.

Rep. Jim Himes, a Democratic member of the House Intelligence committee, says "we are a ways yet from being able to conclude anything" when it comes to his committee's investigation into Russia's actions in the 2016 election.

Trump is under pressure to reveal whether he has any tape recordings of private conversations with Comey. Ledgett wrote a memo, according to the source, documenting a conversation in which the president allegedly urged Rogers to help get the FBI to lift the cloud of the Russian Federation investigation.

This is, however, a tough sell, in part because multiple major news organizations have confirmed that the president is in fact being investigated for obstruction of justice, and in part because of phrases such as "I am being investigated" and "He's being investigated" don't lend themselves to nuanced interpretations.

The panel sent a bipartisan letter this month to White House counsel Don McGahn seeking an answer by this Friday.

Schiff says if the panel can't get an answer then he believes a subpoena will be needed. Rumors have run rampant about such an investigation after James Comey was sacked from his post very suddenly, leading to dramatic series of events which included Comey's testimony.

Asked on NBC where the Senate Intelligence Committee's investigation stands, Sen. "There's a lot of information yet to go".

Top aides and allies have urged the president to stay off Twitter.

He's used the term repeatedly-notably last Thursday, when he said the " single greatest witch hunt in American political history" is being led by "very bad and conflicted people".
