Of course, none of this is going to happen overnight, but Apple has a ready iOS user base for nearly anything new it introduces, and this is yet another potential revenue stream that can help the company offset its heavy dependence on iPhone sales. Apple's version of machine learning is woven into what its users would do on a daily basis across the operating system, right from understanding faces to suggesting apps based on incoming messages.

Apple is also starting to phase out 32-bit support for the Mac, telling developers at WWDC that Mac OS High Sierra would be the last to have 32-bit capability "without compromises".

The keynote speech at Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference was 2-and-a-half hours long, but they packed a world's worth of news into that time. Everything in your home will be connected and powered by an artificial intelligence.

Up until now, Apple had deliberately opted to ignore offering playback support for FLAC files in both iTunes and iOS - though there are numerous third-party apps to do the trick.

Upon detection, the phone activates the "Do not disturb while driving" mode, which automatically silences notifications, thereby turning off the screen.

Later the same month, Uber blamed iOS for tracking users' location long after they had used the app.

The camera software in iOS 11 has also been reworked to improve its performance.

CHINESE consumers will enjoy localized optimization features in Apple's next-generation operating system for its iPhones in the autumn, the company said yesterday. Users will also be able to dismiss the notice by saying they are passengers.
