76ers Chose Markelle Fultz Over Jimmy Butler

76ers Chose Markelle Fultz Over Jimmy Butler

Smith said live on his show First Take that the 76ers were looking to trade the No. 3 pick for Butler, and the Celtics are now trying to do the same - plus add Gordon Hayward in free agency. Right now, the speculation is running wild that the Celtics are looking to trade for Anthony Davis or Jimmy Butler.

Chicago Bulls guard Jimmy Butler has continued to have his name come up in trade talks, as both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves have emerged as potential destinations for him heading into the 2017-18 season. If Butler were to remain in Chicago, the Celtics are expected to draft either Kansas wing Josh Jackson or Duke forward Jayson Tatum with the No. 3 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

Marc Bertrand, meanwhile, also likes the idea of adding Butler for the simple fact that he would make the Celtics a lot better. In March, a front-office execute told The Ringer that Butler was "as good as gone" from Chicago and would push the Bulls front office to trade him this summer. Rumors are starting to fly that Danny Ainge and the Celtics are stockpiling draft picks in order to acquire a veteran superstar from another team and there have two targets in mind.

But who knows if the Bulls have an actual desire to trade Butler, as players of his caliber are hard to come by and consistently drafting high doesn't guarantee anything in the way of the future-anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of the National Basketball Association knows that.

Whether the Bulls stay calm or idle, it can appear to look the same way but they know there's a possibility the phone may ring in the next four days.
