Donald Trump faces new controversies as foreign trip winds down

Trump finally left Europe on Saturday without committing to remaining in the Paris climate accord, despite efforts by European leaders to impress on him that pulling out of the agreement would be a major mistake.

"The now paying much more than any other nation and that is not fair to the United States or the United States taxpayer. Changing the infrastructure of global trade to tilt it back toward the US would save and create millions, easily", a White House official said, explaining the president's tweet.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says the G-7 agreed to step up pressure on North Korea, including sanctions.

Seven wealthy democracies have reached a deal at their annual summit to give the Trump administration time to tell them whether the United States plans to stay in the Paris climate agreement. So we're working on it and I will tell you, a big difference over the a year ago, money is actually starting to pour into North Atlantic Treaty Organisation from countries that would not have been doing what they're doing now had I not been elected, I can tell you that.

He says: "There have been differences, to be sure, in some past summits, but not a sharp open split like this".

Many suspect President Trump-who previously called global warming a hoax, is trying to use the climate change issue as leverage in other debates but his decision left a sour taste with leaders and diplomats who are having to revisit an issue they hoped they had sorted.

Trump also has made a clear break from his Democratic predecessor, who during his final trip overseas called the U.S. The leaders found agreement on other points, such as backing closer cooperation against terrorism in the wake of the concert bombing in Manchester that killed 22 people.

She told reporters: 'The entire discussion about climate was very hard, if not to say very dissatisfying. The group called for the Paris Climate Agreement to be implemented without delay.

The G-7 leaders had better luck finding agreement on the other problematic topic at the summit, trade.

However, there was relief that Trump agreed to language in the final G7 communique that pledged to fight protectionism and commits to a rules-based worldwide trade system.

US officials said he had enjoyed "robust" conversations with his allies in Sicily and had also learnt a lot-especially in the debate on climate change, which he has previously dismissed as a hoax.

During the campaign Trump repeatedly promised that the United States would withdraw from the agreement if he was elected, but tweeted Saturday that he will make a decision on the matter this week. Cohn stressed Friday that the president was simply being critical of the United States of America trade imbalance with Germany.Shop owners in a Sicilian town have covered their windows with sheet metal and cardboard ahead of a protest expected to take place on the sidelines of a Group of Seven meeting. The no-protectionism pledge had been a part of previous G-7 statements but was omitted after a meeting of the group's finance ministers' earlier this month in Bari, Italy.
